Wine Knowledge
One of the world's most popular wines originally grew wild and uncultivated in southwestern France or the Loire Valley – and that's how it got its name – because "sauvage" means "wild" in French.
Our personal story with the "wild white" began with the 2012 vintage... because at that time we bought the vineyards of another winery here in Weyher and thus came to Sauvignon blanc like Mary to the child. That was an exciting thing, because we have known Riesling since 1788, but Sauvignon blanc was completely new territory for us. So how should we best deal with this new and unknown baby?
Did you know that our brain remembers bad news much better than joyful events? This effect is known as Negativity Bias. If you think back to evolution, this is quite understandable - because if you don't quickly grasp that a hungry saber-toothed tiger is not good news, you'll hardly have the opportunity to philosophize about the beauty of life. So far, so understandable.*
Unfortunately, however, this means that bad news sells better - and consequently, the focus of all reporting is on negative news. This makes it so that you can only watch the Tagesschau (German news program) if you are emotionally stable at the moment...
Have you ever heard of a "bucket list"? This is an English term that comes from the idiom "to kick the bucket". Literally, it means "to kick the bucket". In fact, however, it is a colloquial way of speaking about death. It is rumored that it goes back to the Wild West method of hanging – meaning someone kicks the bucket from under you while you stand under the tree with a tight noose around your neck. Gulp. Our German translation "den Löffel abgeben" (to hand in the spoon) is already a little gentler.
The bucket list, or rather, the "spoon list", lists all the things you still want to do before it's too late. It's quite smart to have a spoon list... but that alone is not enough. You also have to work through it!
And we are absolutely, absolutely, absolutely sure that there are some among you who have "visit the Weyherer Wein Panorama" on their bucket list (whether in thought or actually on paper). And we think it's time to put the beautiful plans of life into action! Now. Not tomorrow. Not next year.
There are places in Germany where it rains constantly. Okay, that's an exaggeration. But if it rains anywhere in the surrounding area, it's guaranteed to rain there. And sometimes you even see it (especially beautifully on a country road): As if drawn with a string, the part of the road behind you is soaking wet, and the part of the road still to come is bone dry. You look up at the sky in amazement and wonder who cut off the clouds. At least if you're new to the area. Those who have lived there longer shrug their shoulders and say that it's often like that at this spot.
In the past, people meticulously observed natural conditions and then adapted:
What is food pairing?
"Food pairing" refers to the perfect combination of wine & food, where the aromas complement or even enhance each other, turning the harmonious whole into a feast for the palate. It is, therefore, a kind of matchmaking service for dishes & drinks – in other words: who goes with whom?
There are combinations that just go incredibly well together; everyone agrees on that. For example, fine chocolate and ...
