Late bloomers - or: the last will be the first.

We do not agree with all the Bible verses, but the sentence " The last will be first " probably came about (quite correctly) when Jesus was thinking of Riesling.*
Because our high-quality and precious single-vineyard Riesling is coming onto the market NOW - and - the connoisseurs will know - not the one from 2023, oh, no! They are the grapes from the 2022 harvest ... because the Riesling, the noble, the fine, the good, is a real late bloomer. It needs to rest, rest, and rest again. And mature. This is the only way it can develop its aroma. Only THEN is it ready to be enjoyed.
But even that is not the end of the story when it comes to aroma development . Because things continue in the bottle too... and that's why we've set up our treasure trove! Here you can try the different vintages - and take a taste journey through time in fast motion that is unparalleled.

We have already told you that Riesling is a real drama queen. Our sensitive wine reacts extremely to the smallest variations, whether it is the soil ( red sandstone, slate, granite or marl ) or the weather. We have already talked a lot about the soil ( you can read about it here ). You can never talk enough about the weather (as all English people know), so here is a brief overview:
2022 – the new vintage, now available for the first time!
  • Spring: budding quite early at the end of February, flowering begins at the end of May

  • Summer: lots of sun, really hot. No rainfall from June to August. Harvest begins at the end of August

  • Autumn: Lots of rain at the beginning of September, resulting in a rainy harvest

  • CONCLUSION: Opulent wines with a fantastic aroma. A little less acidity, a little more alcohol. More comparable to the 2020 vintage. Enjoy it, it's worth it!

2021
  • Spring: vines sprout at the end of March, flowering at the beginning of June in optimal weather

  • Summer: more moderate temperatures, cooler nights, relatively high rainfall (approx. 800 liters)

  • Autumn: sunny, but with cool nights, no rain

  • CONCLUSION: fresh acidity, a very sparkling vintage

2020
  • Spring: shoots of the vines at the end of February, flowering in mid-May very early

  • Summer: an almost Mediterranean climate, hot days & nights in summer, little rainfall (approx. 680 litres)

  • Autumn: sunny & warm, no rain

  • CONCLUSION: less acidity than 2021 (2021 average 8.0 g/l, 2020 average 7.7 g/l), but a little more sugar and therefore a little stronger.

2019
  • Spring: vines sprout in early March, flowering in late May

  • Summer: hot days, cool nights, little rainfall with about 700 litres

  • Autumn: lots of sun, rain on some days, cool nights

  • CONCLUSION: Acidity similar to 2020 (approx. 7.8 g/l), slightly more sugar, stronger, pronounced fruit aromas.

Our extensive harvest and consistent development towards greater quality have already been honored several times nationally and internationally, and we are proud of that. You can find out more about the podiums our Riesling has already reached here. And if you want to find out more about the history, you can read more here.
But enough reading, now you can get started and explore the taste! We have put together a special comparison package for you for the Riesling vintages 2021 to 2022, with 15 bottles at a special price.
If you prefer to shop specifically or just browse, you can find our treasure trove here and our updated price list here.
As always at this time of year, some wines are already coming to an end. The Cabernet blanc is almost sold out (we expect the new vintage in December / January), and only a few bottles of the Müller-Thurgau are still available.
With that in mind – santé, cheers, chinchin!

*Okay, maybe not entirely. But at least it was about working in the vineyard. If you want to know more, you should open the Gospel of Matthew 20.
