We live on a cloud. A cloud of scent made of pollen and sunshine. In the last few weeks our vines have been blooming in the beautiful Palatinate, and there is no more wonderful scent in the world. The bees are in a frenzy of joy and we are happy too, especially because the year did not start so rosy:

After a short, warm spring phase at the start of the year (in February!), frost came again in May and caused the tender shoots to freeze in many vineyards in the 13 German wine-growing regions , as we have already reported. Our vineyards around Weyher were lucky and were spared, thanks to our protected and special location.

And then the rain came...

Es liegt was in der Luft...

When the whole world smells of flowers, you are either in love - or in Weyher. Because the wine blossom has begun ! The delicate scent envelops us and enchants us every year. This year it is a little later than usual - the beginning of the year was cool. But actually this is our "normal" continental climate... as it was twenty years ago.

But no matter when the flowers start to bloom, the bees and bumblebees are delighted. Every year we get a visit from a queen who is placed in the vineyard with a small entourage of worker bees and her hive. For many years, good friends who are experienced beekeepers have been responsible for the royal journey. The bees then only have to fall headfirst into the flowers to find their nectar. A life like paradise, indeed! If the bees are full of energy, they can alternatively fly to the chestnut trees that bloom not far from the vineyards...

Magische Stunden im Weinberg

There are many highlights in the winemaking year, but one of the biggest is the annual vine blossom. Only when there are enough leaves on the vine and the so-called buds (the beginnings of the future grapes) are fully developed, then the hours of sunshine and, above all, the temperatures (constantly at least 15+ degrees for several days) are right, do the vines begin to bloom .
